Expansion Background
During the past few years, Monadnock Community Hospital has found that our primary service
area is growing at a faster rate than that of New Hampshire and much of the country.
Consequently, we conducted a thorough strategic planning process to determine the best
response to the changing environment.
The result is the Investing in Your Community Healthcare expansion plan. It focuses on improving the patient experience in the most heavily used and growing departments at the hospital: Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Maternity, and Physician Practices. This project includes renovations to the existing hospital and construction of a new clinical building. It is scheduled to continue from 2008 through 2012.
The most immediate need is to expand the Emergency Department which sees over 13,000 visits per year. A new Maternity Center will meet the growing needs for obstetrical care and create a state-of-the-art yet highly personal experience for new mothers and families. Surgical Services continues to grow at MCH and an expanded surgery department will provide the very best facility for patients, surgeons and clinical staff. Renovation and expansion of the existing Medical Office Building will create new space for primary care practices. Future expansion is also planned for other hospital services, such as oncology and pharmacy.
The Investing in Your Community Healthcare expansion will:
-
Improve the patient experience
-
Improve patient access, safety and convenience
-
Incorporate new electronic medical record technology
-
Strengthen physician recruitment and retention efforts
In addition to the expansion, the Town of Peterborough will be constructing a new connector road between Route 202 and Old Street Road in 2009. This will create a new main entrance directly from Route 202 north and will reduce traffic congestion on the current roads accessing the hospital.
